Audi TT Custom Wide Body Kit – TT AUTHORITY

Paul, an old friend of the site recently contacted me after several years. A simple Hello inquiring about the LED DRLs I sell on this site. He said he had been working hard on his TT and that the only mod left on it was the DRLs. It got me started… “What did you do to your TT? any pics?”.

Well it seems like Paul did indeed spend a buck or two on this car! I did not expect that level of customization… The body kit was easy to identify, a Regula Tuning of second generation (GTRS). But wait a minute, his pics show a wide body TT! I do know my body kits and I have never seen a Wide Body Regula GTRS anywhere… Know what? Paul had the kit modified and got the body shop to extend his fenders of 3 inches on all 4 wheels! So his TT has become unique, with only one kit made worldwide. (I know my readers, I already hear some saying thank god there’s only one! You guys are mean…)

I applause Paul’s courage as this project did require a lot of time and, well dollars.

audi tt 8n mk1 custom wide body kit

But the mods Paul did on his TT does not stop at the body kit, all the obvious has been looked after, such as suspension, engine, interior and sound system. His TT is a bit like a DTM revisited for street + killer audio. Here are the pics Paul sent me. His TT is now baptized TT AUTHORITY.

Now, having seen many heavily modified TTs in the past months did 2 things to me. At the beginning, I wanted to join the group and go for a body kit myself. Since I have to get my TT painted in the next few months, I thought I’d have it customized at the same time. My ideal goal would be to create what would have been a TTRS of first generation. A TTR or TTRS – 8N. Wouldn’t it be wonderfull? There were RS4s, why not TTRs with a wide body and V6Turbo?

But, yes there’s a but, after seing all these modified TTs I started to think… Since I whish to keep my TT for many years to come, it has to still look nice in say 5 years or more. Heavy mods do not stand against time attack. After a few months/years, heavily modified cars start to look like old broads with a face lift. See what I mean? I guess that my fellow purist friends in UK finally made it to my mind. I am starting to think that the best looking TTs are slighly customized (read DRLs, engine, suspension, etc) but really OEM looking. The TT desing is already close to perfection (that is for MK1 enthousiasts like I am!) so why go through so much mods to change its look? Yeah, I’m getting there. I see the value in keeping the TT close to its original design while still making slight modifications.

Still, I’m not sure which way to go. I really enjoy wide fenders on a TT, as much as I like them on RS4s. arghh I don’t know. I still have time to make up my mind. 🙂

-> Thoughts? I’d like to read them. Post below.

How to Split Open Audi TT Mk1 Front Headlights

I have been asked many times how to open our TT Headlights.

In other words, how to separate the lens (or “headlight lens cover”) from the rest of the headlight assembly.

There are 2 ways I know of, one consists of putting the complete headlight assembly in the oven at low temperature for several minutes,  which softens the glue that holds the headlight lens to the rest of the headlight. The second way consist of using a heat gun to soften the glue. Both are similar in terms of results.

Here’s a youtube video I found that shows how to open the TT headlight using a heat gun. The user opens the headlight assembly in order to paint the interior in light grey so it looks like a 3.2 headlight.

Audi TT mk1 front end conversion (to mk2)

Hi Guys,

Here’s a great buy!

I recently stumbled on an enthusiast that converted his MK1 with an MK2 front end. Wow, that must have taken him a lot of time to do, I thought. Worse is he’s 99% done but has to sell his 2003 TT with many other goodies (BC BR Coilovers, Miro 111 wheels, custom made rear diffuser, etc.) for a mere $6,000! Seller is in LA, US.

If you ask me, this car is very well worth it if you’re in the market for a custom looking TT. Only thing left is paint! Ok, maybe a new rear bumper to fit the front would help, but man! This project is dirt cheap.

Original post is here.

Update April 7, 2014. I just saw this pic on instagram! Did not find any info to link it to the owner. Wonder if it’s the same TT?

DMC Widebody Kit – Project coming to life very soon

Hi all,

There is nothing like pictures to better describe DMC’s work. DMC must be the only tuner to still create body parts for the MK1 TT. Danke DMC, you haven’t let us down!
Now the question is, once this car has a new paint sheme, will it be to everyone’s taste?
Here’s an idea, why don’t you guys vote on the project. Like it or not? Please let me know your thoughts. (See Poll at the end of this post)

UPDATE:

I had fun tonight with photoshop and made several color shemes. Although I’m not a Photoshop specialist, it helps to have an idea of what the car will look like once painted.

Pictures of Audi TT accidents, crashes & collisions

You’re here, reading these lines, because you have searched on Google or clicked a link that will show you pics of wrecked, destroyed, disassembled, dismantled Audi TTs… RIGHT?

I hope this will satisfy your morbid fascination with car crashes and accidents. Enjoy the carnage 🙂

p.s. stuff to read below…

You might wonder whay we are attracted to peek at cars in accidents.

According to Aristotle in his Poetics we even “enjoy contemplating the most precise images of things whose sight is painful to us”. (This aspect of our nature, often referred to as the “Car Crash Syndrome” or “Trainwreck Syndrome”, accounts for the supposed attraction such accidents have for passers-by.)

Car Crash Syndrome is basically morbid curiosity, when people slow down to see car crashes, sub-consciously they want to see something gruesome. Only the real sicko’s would admit to wanting to see some gore, but it is Humans nature to be curious of this morbid sense of entertainment. Throughout Human history there has been many times when Human suffering has been used as entertainment, most notably the Gladiators of Rome. Now, we look-out for fights in major league sports like hockey (with lots of blood please…) or crashes in car racing. (with a huge fire please…)

We, humans, did not change at all. Proof? You just proved the theory since you’re here, reading these lines… Not sure? Then don’t click this car crash video link, what on there is disgusting.

My thoughts! Ciao guys

I recently installed a DMC Rear Diffuser!

I recently installed a DMC Rear Diffuser!

I greatly modified it so it goes in deeper into the bumper. The original diffuser is about 2 inches out of the bumper as mine is now half an inch. I had the wings painted in orange, to complete the look. I’m having fun! 🙂

See ya

Audi TT-R DTM (8n)

Guys,

I thought I’d exchange some info from a recent search I did on Widebody TTs. The DTM TT-R is the one that has most pictures, since it did many races. (2002-8)

Some info

The TT-R marked Audi’s return to DTM racing in 2004, first entered as privateer car by Abt and later as a full works effort to take the fight to Mercedes & Opel. The car even had a successful life beyond the DTM as the TT-R was also used for Audi’s works effort at the Nürburgring 24h race in 2003 & 2004. Note: The TT-R does not share mechanical parts with the road TTs. It runs a close to 500 bhp V8 engine, RWD. See “specs” below.

Enjoy the pics & video!

DMC Widebody Kit News!

Hi Friends,

— UPDATE: Guys, here are the latest pics! We not get to see what the front bumper looks like!

News from Maurice at DMC (Germany). He’s back onto his Widebody project and hopes to be done in a few months. It’s a lot of work and he wants to make sure it will look right. So here’s a few pics, as this is stage two in his project development.

Some of you like it, some hate it. But you know what; I salute DMC’s effort to build something new for the MK1, since everyone has stopped and now focuses on the mk2.

Rotomaster Turbo becomes Garrett

Hi Guys,

I was exchanging with big turbo guys from UK and realised that I forgot to mention that I had to change my turbo internals recently.

As you may have read on my blog, I had chosen to install a Kinetic Stage 3 Big Turbo kit 2 years ago. I got problems with the kit, as the turbine became offset and damaged itself. Apparently, Kinetic is a lower-quality copy of Garrett. So I replaced all the turbo internals with Garrett ones, only keeping the Kinetic housing!

Lesson learned: Whenever I get to choose for my next big turbo kit, I’ll go with Garrett.

🙂
