Audi TT Recalls

Hi All,

Audi-Electric-Car-Comp-3Have you recently checked if your TT has a recall? Here are the major North-American and European recalls on Audi TTs. Your car may have been imported from another country, so I suggest you have a look at your neighbor countries just in case. Or even better, call you local Audi dealership and give them your VIN for a quick check-up.

Best,

Andre

MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2008 AND AUGUST 2009 RECALL Subject : DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX

Report Receipt Date: AUG 20, 2009
NHTSA Campaign Number: 09V333000
Component(s): POWER TRAIN

SUMMARY:

VOLKSWAGEN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 AND 2010 PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 2008 AND AUGUST 2009. THE WIRING HARNESS OF A TEMPERATURE SENSOR IN THE DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX (DSG) MAY HAVE CONNECTOR WIRES THAT WERE INSUFFICIENTLY CRIMPED. WITH INSUFFICIENTLY CRIMPED CONNECTOR WIRES, A TEMPERATURE SENSOR HAS THE POTENTIAL TO FALSELY DETECT A HIGH GEARBOX OIL TEMPERATURE, CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO ABRUPTLY SHIFT TO NEUTRAL. IF THIS HAPPENS, THE SELECTOR LEVER POSITION INDICATOR WITHIN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL FLASH. IN ADDITION, THE “DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL” INDICATOR LIGHT WILL BE ILLUMINATED, ALERTING THE DRIVER TO APPLY THE BRAKES.

CONSEQUENCE:

THE ABRUPT SHIFT TO NEUTRAL COULD LEAD TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.

REMEDY:

VOLKSWAGEN WILL REPROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WITH UPDATED SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 20, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLKSWAGEN AT 1-800-822-8987.

CANADA

Model Year(s) Affected: 2008 2009 2010
Transport Canada Recall # 2009278

Recall Date: 2009/09/29
Notification Type: Safety Mfr
System: Fuel Supply

Recall Details

On certain Audi A3 Quattro, TT Quattro and TT Quattro roadster, the closing force of an internal spring of the fuel tank ventilation valve is not adequate enough to hold the valve closed under extreme conditions. During certain driving manoeuvres, liquid fuel may enter the fuel tank venting system and migrate into the evaporative system, saturating the carbon canister. Should this occur while driving, the vehicle may experience performance issues (i.e. vehicle jerking) and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) in the instrument cluster could illuminate. In certain instances, fuel could leak from the evaporative system leak detection pump filter. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel tank ventilation valve with an improved version.

Model Year(s) Affected: 2009 2010
Transport Canada Recall # 2009249

Recall Date: 2009/08/20
Notification Type: Safety Mfr
System: Powertrain

Recall Details

On certain Audi A3, TT, TT Roadster, and Volkswagen EOS, Golf wagon, GTI, Jetta and Jetta wagon equipped with a Direct-Shift Gearbox (DSG), the wiring harness of a temperature sensor in the DSG may have connector wires that were insufficiently crimped during assembly. As such, the temperature sensor could falsely detect a high gearbox oil temperature, causing the transmission to abruptly shift to the Neutral position. A loss of propulsion, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the transmission control module with updated software..

Model Year(s) Affected: 2008
Transport Canada Recall # 2008043

Recall Date: 2008/02/07
Notification Type: Safety Mfr
System: Other

Recall Details

On certain vehicles, the C-pillar trim cover clips do not provide adequate retention. In the event of a deployment of the rear pyrotechnic safety belt, the C-pillar trim cover may become detached from the sheet metal due to low retention force of the trim clip. The detached trim cover could pose a risk of personal injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will install an improved clip.

Recall Details

On certain vehicles equipped with a Direct Shift Gearbox, a seam at the clutch was not welded to specification. This could lead to degraded performance of the clutch after an indefinite period of use. The clutch could lose its ability to provide input torque to the transmission without prior warning, which could allow the vehicle to roll. Correction: Dealer will replace the clutch.

Model Year(s) Affected: 2000
Transport Canada Recall # 2000027

Recall Date: 2000/02/15
Notification Type: Safety Mfr
System: Steering

Recall Details

Certain vehicles may be susceptible to loss of directional stability in sharp turns or abrupt lane change maneuvers at extremely high speeds due to a steering system that is very responsive to steering input. Correction: Stabilizers will be replaced in front on front wheel drive vehicles and on both front and rear on quattro drive vehicles. A modified control arm will be installed in front together with firmer shock absorbers in front and rear. In addition, a rear spoiler will be installed.

Build Start Date : 01/09/1998 – Build End Date :  31/12/1999

Concern : INSTABILITY AND LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL COULD OCCUR
Description : The TT proves to have a relatively narrow handling limit zone if extreme manoeuvres are undertaken at high speed which could lead, in the worst case, to a precise steering response to retain directional control. Instability and loss of directional control could occur. These characteristics have led to some customers objecting to the cars road behaviour. In an attempt to improve customer satisfaction, the cars physical reactions are to be modified so the vehicles behaviour becomes more predictable at the handling limits.
Remedial Action : Likely to be affected vehicles will be recalled for modifications to the suspension settings and the addition of a rear spoiler.
Vehicle Id : TRU zzz 8N z X1 000 101 to TRU zzz 8N z X1 026 905

Concern : REAR AXLE BALL JOINTS MAY SEIZE
Description : There is a risk of moisture entering the ball joints of the rear axle which can start corrosion in the joints, ultimately causing the joints to seize.
Remedial Action : Recall affected vehicles and fit modified ball joints.

Concern : AIRBAG MAY NOT DEPLOY
Description : On 79 vehicles within the VIN ranges affected (with 3-spoke sports steering wheel) it is possible that, in the event of a collision impact above the triggering threshold of the airbags, the driver’s airbag may not be deployed.
Remedial Action : The drivers airbag unit will be replaced on all affected vehicles with 3-spoke sports steering wheel.

Concern : REAR LEFT BRAKE PIPE MAY BECOME DAMAGED.
Description : There is a possibility that the rear left brake pipe may become damaged by contact with the rear suspension coupling rod.
Remedial Action : Recall affected vehicles, inspect brake pipe for damage to protective coating and replace and/or reposition if necessary.

Concern : TRIM MAY COME LOOSE IN A COLLISON CAUSING INJURY
Description : In an accident where the rear seat belt tensioners are triggered, the side pillar trim could protrude into the passenger compartment and cause an increased risk of injury for both the front and rear passengers.
Remedial Action : Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to replace the front retaining clips on both side pillar trims.
