I have been asked many times how to open our TT Headlights.
In other words, how to separate the lens (or “headlight lens cover”) from the rest of the headlight assembly.
There are 2 ways I know of, one consists of putting the complete headlight assembly in the oven at low temperature for several minutes, which softens the glue that holds the headlight lens to the rest of the headlight. The second way consist of using a heat gun to soften the glue. Both are similar in terms of results.
Here’s a youtube video I found that shows how to open the TT headlight using a heat gun. The user opens the headlight assembly in order to paint the interior in light grey so it looks like a 3.2 headlight.
Andre, do you recall what sort of adhesive you used to rejoin the front/rear halves afterwards?
Yes, the original adhesive! It stays on the assembly when you pull out the lenses.
