Street or Track tires?
I am presently looking for tires and wheels.
But first, I need to find a tire that will allow me track and street driving. I know my tire size will either be 225-40-18 or 235-35-19. I am thinking the Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 may be my best choice.
[UPDATE: Nov 26 2010] I think I will buy 2 separate sets, one for looks, the other for track usage. I will resume my search very soon. Keep watching!
[UPDATE: Jan 1 2011] I bought one set on 19s for the road. More here.
Here’s what I found on Tire Rack.
Street (Extreme Performance Summer)
Best: Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 (273$ per tire – 1092$ for all 4 tires)
See Tire Rack’s test of the RE11 here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=118
Second best: Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08 (251$ – 1004$)
See Tire Rack’s test of the AD08 here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=118
Street (Max Performance Summer)
Best: Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 (325$ – 1300$)
See Tire Rack’s test of the AD08 here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=120
Street (Ultra High Performance Summer)
Best: Kumho Ecsta SPT (167$ – 668$)
See Tire Rack’s test of the Ecsta SPT here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests/testDisplay.jsp?ttid=131
Or track tires, which are more expensive… I read that the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup are very good, but reviewers on Tire Rack said they are as satisfied with the Potenze RE11. The price difference is 60$ per tire… hum, not sure of which set I’ll be buying.
